Hello everybody! Co-Founder SAJ-Man here! I want to apologize for all of the expired submissions you've been getting as of late. I was without internet unexpectedly for several days and have only now gotten back online. So things should go back to normal from now on, it was just a random unavoidable thing, you know how life is.
So please just resubmit the expired submissions to the correct folders and I'll pass them through, to make up for the time I was offline. Apologize once again. Hope you're all doing well and I'll be seeing you again soon! Later! :D
Edit (4/15/22): The Game Character With Fan Character Art Folder is only for characters that appear in the games. So if your deviation features a Fan Character interacting with Movie Sonic or Sally Acorn, the deviation should be submitted to that continuity's folder. A Fan Character with Movie Sonic goes in the Sonic X, Sonic Boom, Sonic Movie Folder, while a Fan Character with Sally Acorn goes in the SatAM, Sonic Underground, AoStH Folder or Archie, IDW, STC Folder (depending on the Sally Acorn featured, of course)
Basically, if you have a Fan Character in the same pic as non-game canon characters, just put it in the folder that corresponds to the canon character's continuity. Of course if it's a pic with Fan Characters and Canon Characters set in an AU, you can just put it in the Alternate Universe folder. Apologies for not making this clearer until now ^^;
Again, if you have questions or are confused about anything, feel free to drop a comment on this journal or if you like you can DM me, SAJ-Man, directly. C:
=================
Edit (3/24/20): The Official Characters Folder is only for characters that appear in the games. So if you're confused as to who belongs in this folder, just ask if they've appeared in a game or in the game related canon material (tie-in comics, concept art, prototype designs, etc). So Irish the Hedgehog, Rankles the Otter, and characters like them whose continuities are subject to interpretation, do NOT belong in this folder. For characters like this, the Miscellaneous folder is just fine.
Again, if you have questions about where to submit your deviations, don't hesitate to ask either in the comments of this journal or DM-ing me,. Thanks for reading and happy drawing! C:
=================
Hello everybody! SAJ-Man the Admin here! I've notice a couple of reoccurring discrepancies when it comes to submitting to the gallery so allow me to clear those up real quick. If you have questions about any of this, feel free to ask:
- First and foremost, there is a 2 deviation per week limit. We do not allow submission dumps here. I'm the only admin here, so it's not going to be possible for me to catch every deviation is going where it needs to if everyone drops 10 deviations a day. It's just chaotic when it shouldn't be. Unfortunately, Eclipse is still not fixed when it comes to groups (or anything, really) so I can't put the 2 deviations per week limit in the group's code itself. So I'm saying it here, so listen closely: If you do not honor this rule and continue to submit more than 2 deviations a week, none of your deviations will be accepted until you confirm in a note that you understand this rule. This is very important and I need everyone to understand this rule because it's the only one that will prevent you from being able to submit your work here.
- The New Members Only folder is NOT a folder for everyone. This folder is for members who have been a part of the group for less than 6 months. So if you joined November 2019, April 2020 you will not be able to submit to the folder. Those of you that have been members for over 6 months, please understand that this folder isn't for you any longer. I want that to be crystal clear because this folder is specifically to help New Members get noticed. Thank you for respecting that by submitting to the other folders.
- Speaking of other folders, there are several new folders to help streamline our gallery! The AU folder is for, you guessed it, Alternate Universe art. Meaning, characters that are reimagined, redesigned (including human versions of characters), featured in fan fictions/fan stories, all of that goes in this folder. Note: Characters simply in a different outfit or drawn in a different style don't go in this folder. The story surrounding the character/object/location/whatever determines if it goes in this folder. So just be very clear with your descriptions and/or tags when thinking of submitting to this folder.
- The Crossover folder is, you guessed it again, crossover art. Meaning characters from other series/other universes/other continuities are welcomed. Note: Sonic characters dressed as other characters outside of the series is welcomed here, just make sure it isn't an Alternate Universe version of the characters. Also note: Classic era and Modern era in one pic isn't considered a crossover, but Boom and Modern era are. The point of the folder is to encompass multiple series/continuities art, not multiple timelines/universes in the series.
- The SatAM, AoStH, Sonic Underground folder is for art pertaining to these specific shows. So Sally of the SatAM continuity goes here, but all other versions of Sally go in another folder. If both are in the same pic, it counts as a crossover, because continuities are crossing over. Note: This includes Fan Fictions set in these continuities as well. All works focused on these continuities are confined to this folder or the folder of the type of artwork (fan fiction, crafts, etc.) unless of course it's a crossover. Also note: The way certain characters are drawn, the locations, the iconography featured will determine if the deviation belongs in this folder. For example: If Tails is drawn in his SatAM style, then he will go in this folder, even if the author meant to put him in the Archie, IDW, STC folder. So make it clear in the description or hashtags what continuity your deviations are part of. It keeps confusion way down.
- The Sonic X, Sonic Boom, Sonic Movie folder is, obviously, for these continuities. So, if you make a Movie Sonic pic, or a pic of Sonic with blue arms with no wrappings, he's going in this folder. Note: Just like the SatAM, AoStH, Sonic Underground folder; fan fictions, crafts, and other miscellaneous artworks based on these continuities belong in this folder as well. Also note: Make it clear in the description or hashtags what continuity your deviations are part of, because the iconography, artstyle, locations, etc. will be used to determine if the deviation gets into this folder.
- The Archie, IDW, STC folder encompasses all of the comics continuities. So all Sallys, Freedom Fighters, Scourages, and Fleetway Super Sonics go in this folder. I want to make this super clear: the comic continuity characters are NOT Official Characters nor are they Alternate Universe characters. They are part of the Archie, IDW, or STC continuity, the Official Character folder is only for the Games continuity. Fan characters based on the comics continuities go in this folder. Zombot art goes in this folder. Basically, if your deviation is part of any of the comics in any way, shape, or form, put it here. Note: The same goes for Fan Fictions, crafts, and other miscellaneous artworks, though you can choose to put those comic continuity fan fictions, crafts, and other miscellaneous artworks in the respective folder. So you do have a choice where these specific deviations can go.
- The Cosplay folder isn't a new folder, but there has been a little confusion regarding it so I'll clarify: This is for both real people cosplaying as Sonic Characters and Sonic Characters in costumes referencing other characters or media. So please be careful, there is a fine line between Sonic dressed as Goku and a version of Sonic where he has the powers, uniform, and personality of Goku. This one is tricky so be super clear with your hashtags and descriptions for this one. Note: Characters swapping clothes, such as Knuckles wearing Maria's clothes is technically cosplay unless it's part of an AU story. But Amy in Rouge's clothes and with Rouge's personality and Rouge's position in a story is technically an AU. Like I said, it's tricky so be clear with your descriptions and hashtags to help us out.
- The Miscellaneous folder is for anything that doesn't have a folder dedicated to it. So if you write a Sonic game review, make a theory about something in the Sonic series, take a picture of a tattoo, etc. you can put that here. This is NOT a folder for literally anything you want. There's a Archie folder, don't throw all your Enerjaks in the Miscellaneous folder. Miscellaneous is for work that doesn't have a dedicated folder, so if you don't see a folder dedicated to the specific type of work you want to share, check back here to see if this journal clarifies anything. Then if this doesn't answer your question, feel free to submit to the Miscellaneous folder.
- Finally, I want to say thank you for submitting your wonderful work to this group. We appreciate you all and hope to have more events planned in the future. So stay tuned, feel free to ask questions, and I'll see you all next update! :D
Hello everyone! Co-Founder of SonicFreaks-United SAJ-Man here, bringing you another Outstanding Art journal! I thought about doing this every month, but I think it'd be more special if it was an every other month thing. Again, this is partially to help encourage group members to participate a little and partially to reward particular individuals for properly submitting to the right folders.
The folder I've chosen for the 2nd "Outstanding Art" is the Official Character Folder! For those of you who aren't aware, the Official Character Folder is where art of the game canon characters go. That's what "official" means in this context. So first and foremost, thank you, featured artists, who properly used the folders. C:
Now there was A LOT of good art from last month that really caught my eye, so this isn't a complete list. However, I did want to limit it to 5 different artists, so if you aren't featured here, trust me it's only because I wanted to cap it off at 5. So here's the 5 that really caught my eye:
To the Infinity
To the Infinity by @1HardDan1
So if you didn't know, I hate Infinite. He's a terrible character. But! The quality of this pic superseded my hatred of the character. So that should tell you how incredible this piece is! XD In all seriousness, this is amazing, the composition, the ink work, the minimalist style. It all ties together into a fantastic, striking piece that keeps my attention despite the subject matter. Sensational work, 1HardDan1! :D
Burning sunset
Burning sunset by @Tri-Chiy
I mean, who's surprised this one made it? XD I adore the details not only on Blaze, but the background. The clouds, the sun, the Sol Emerald, all of it is painstakingly rendered in a wonderful painterly way that is just beautiful. I'm a sucker for a detailed background and boy does this fit the bill. And if it was just that, it might not have made it, but the details on Blaze's fur and her gloves reflecting the light of the Sol Emerald, it's just perfect. Awesome job, Tri-Chiy! X3
Grunge Amy
Grunge Amy by @DarknessRobotnik
Coming in with another gorgeous background, but for completely different reasons! I don't think most people understand how difficult a task it is to make a plaid background work in an art piece. But this artist has mastered it! Adding a gradient to the plaid while giving it a range of tones that just ties the whole piece together was genius! Which brings us to Amy with a new look. I, myself, have never been a fan of Grunge fashion, but it works very well here. I think the lighting really helps and there's a surprising amount of subtlety to the design. Nicely balanced with Amy's normal look which was a wise choice. All in all, I adore this new look and I love the lighting and background. Excellent piece, DarknessRobotnik! C:
[Panel 3] Imma Sonic fan!
[Panel 3] Imma Sonic fan! by @KetLike
Next up is this amazing piece of the main two hedgehog boys. What's so great about this piece is the artist's style, specifically the use of color. I love how this features so many colors but it doesn't feel all over the place. It's focused while still having a lot of variety in it. Plus, I love how the artist draws hedgehogs, very nice sharp style that just fits the characters so well. Overall this piece just has a really nice ebb and flow to it that just keeps my eyes flowing through it. Stupendous work, KetLike! ^v^
Hi !!
Hi !! by @Vyxed
Last, but certainly not least is this wonderful bust of Amy. The thing that immediately strikes me about this one is the shading style of it. It's expertly done and it gives the impression of a soft, sleek texture to Amy's quills. I love this look and it really complements the art style. And I like how the shading changes for the different materials in the piece, so compare her quills to her dress, compare her dress to her eyes, compare her eyes to her bangle. It's all different because it's different material. That attention to detail really elevates this piece to the level of the other ones featured. Also, despite the background being simple, there is still an attention to detail. Not only is it a gradient, but it's of a color that contrasts with the focus of the piece, Amy. Amazing job, Vyxed
And those are just the ones that caught my eye last month, what about you? Did any of your fellow group members art catch you eye last month? Feel free to drop a link to them in the comments (please don't link your own art, that wouldn't be classy XD no, but seriously don't)
Give all of these artists your attention, throw some faves and watches their way, I think they deserve it. Let me know if you liked this type of journal, so I can know if I should keep doing it. I'm picking a different folder next time, so who knows, you could be featured on here next. Until then, sayonara! X3
Hello everyone! Co-Founder SAJ-Man here, bringing you a brand new journal! I wanted to do something special, something different that we haven't really done here before. Partially to help revitalize the group a little, partially to reward particular individuals for properly submitting to the right folders, and partially because I know a lot of you are looking for reasons to stay active on DA since Eclipse came and took over. As you already know from the previous journal, I'm not the biggest fan of Eclipse either. But I don't want to be part of the problem, I'd like to be part of the solution.
So I thought, "Hey, wouldn't it be great to do a sort of showcase of a particular folder for a particular month?" Thus, I waited for all the May submissions to be finished and here we are! The folder I've chosen for the first go round of this new "Outstanding Art" thing is the New Members Folder! For those of you who aren't aware, the New Members Folder is our most unique folder, only people who are members for 6 months or less can submit to it. So first and foremost, thank you, featured artists, who properly used the folders.
And here's some of that folder's art from last month that really caught my eye:
(5.19.20) Rain
(5.19.20) Rain by @ArtboxArtist
What I love about this simple drawing is the expression on cute little Silver's face and how fluffy the artist made his chest. It's also pretty neat to see the umbrella handle poked through the umbrella, which would make sense if this is a dystopian future where things have to be crude and quickly made for survival. Nice job, ArtboxArtist! :3
SPRITE ANIMATION : All-out attack!!!
SPRITE ANIMATION : All-out attack!!! by @HoodyBob
So first off, this only has 179 views, I think that's terrible because it deserves way more. So go check this out on YouTube everyone, it's actually really good. I mean REALLY GOOD. It's very high quality video, the sound design is on point, it flows and moves exactly as it should, and because it's an homage to Persona 5, it's stylish and bold and impactful. I was really blown away by this one. HoodyBob, keep up the good work :D
(100+ Watchers Special) Rozalieh: A House With Fir
(100+ Watchers Special) Rozalieh: A House With Fir(e) by @GumyGhku-Kowpieh
Last but not least we have this highly detailed, super shiny piece. The thing I like about this, aside from the immense detail and shine, is the little lens flares the artist put in, they're not arbitrarily put in either, they are functioning like actual lens flares would. The hair is nice and flowy, it has a nice color as well. The only thing that I would consider the artist work on is anatomy, specifically ear placement and shoulder structure. But other than those two things, I like it a lot.
And those are just the ones that caught my eye last month, what about you? Did any of your fellow group members art catch you eye last month? Feel free to drop a link to them in the comments (please don't link your own art, that wouldn't be classy XD no, but seriously don't, I might block you from this journal :| )
Give all of these artists your attention, throw some faves and watches their way, I think they deserve it. Let me know if you liked this type of journal, so I can know if I should keep doing it. EDIT 5/14/20: There is a petition going around to protest the forced Eclipse change. The link to it is in the featured comment below. Feel free to sign it, if you like. If not, remember that there is an Eclipse feedback section on DA. If you want to give POLITE feedback to the developers, or if you want to report a glitch or bug you've encountered in Eclipse, use this link. https://www.eclipsefeedback.com/

EDIT 5/11/20: I encourage you all to reply to the comments being made, this is a discussion after all. Get to know your group members, even if you disagree. That's what it means to be part of a community C:
============================================
As you all know, the Eclipse UI is going to take over later this month and the old UI is going away. A lot of people are freaking out about this, which I understand, so I wanted to open a possible dialogue for our group to just discuss Eclipse and whether this is a good idea or not. I'll start by presenting my position:
I hate it. I hate the fact that we don't have a choice anymore. I hate that Eclipse is not intuitively designed. I don't like the aesthetic, I think it looks kinda terrible. And I hate that this decision was made arbitrarily. The old UI didn't have bugs or glitches (anymore), everyone that I know of that uses this site didn't have a problem with the aesthetic or the UI. Nobody really asked for this, as far as I'm aware, and yet here we are.
I've been trying to get used to the new Eclipse UI, really I have, in fact I'm writing this journal under the Eclipse UI. But every minute I use this crappy UI, I find more and more issues that the old UI didn't have. Every minute I find that the old UI was a lot smoother and easier to understand than this new UI. And the thing is, no one would be freaking out and leaving if they still had the choice between Eclipse and the old UI. This is a horrible decision made by the DA admins and I hope they realize that before over half the users on this site abandon it simply because they forced us to adopt a stupid new UI.
Anyway, that's how I feel about it. If you agree, feel free to say so. If you don't agree, feel free to say so. I just wanted to offer a place to discuss it in the group, that's all C:
